The Hump Period
What is the “Hump Period”? you ask.
In short, it’s six weeks. Not just any old six weeks. The first six weeks of your life as a Dad.
It’s also six weeks of confusion, exhaustion, depravation, illusions, collusion and any other ‘ion’s’ you want to add into the mix.
It’s the true parenting experience that you can never prepare for, regardless of how many classes you have attended or books you have read.
It is hard work, but their is some light at the end of, what is, a very long tunnel.

So then what is that light at the end of the tunnel? I’ll repeat what I said at the start, it’s six weeks.
That may seem like a silly response, but when you are three weeks into your journey as a new Dad, knowing that it will all be a little but easier in three more weeks can stop a man from going loco.
So what happens after six weeks? Nothing miraculous I’m afraid, it’s just that after that time everyone (baby, mum & dad) seems to have adjusted to it all.
You see after six weeks has past you would have probably adjusted to getting only three hours sleep before getting up for a feed. The sticky tabs on the diaper no longer has that ‘rubix’s cube’ like level of difficulty. You know exactly how warm the milk is before you even have to test it and for those with any energy left, six weeks is the average time it takes for your partners body to recover after birth, to a point that ‘snuggle time’ can resume.
My hat’s off to any dad that still has the energy!
SO when you have finally been hit with fatherhood and you are struggling to even think straight, just remember, like any hump what goes up must come down. I wish you a very speedy six weeks!
